The Apprentice

The Apprentice

This really has nothing at all to do with my blog ........ but I'm hooked!
I dislike almost all of the contestants and cant believe just how dim they've been.  This week's episode had a wonderful product - the baby's (1) back-pack-booster-seat  (2) -------  fantastic idea.  There must be an enormous market for this, and having taken a poll (4 people by Melody!) and no other proper research,  she decided, off her own bat,  that the product wouldn't sell!  I couldn't believe this stupidity!  She probably will do very well in business as she goes straight for the jugular! (but she is a bully.)  .................  I felt completely knocked out by their sheer dumbness.
The 'teapot' lamp was the typical sort of quirky thing that the French would go for, but personally I wouldn't give it tea room!
Anyone have a suspicion who's going to win?

PS: I love the judges - they definitely know what's what.http://www.amazon.co.uk/SitSac-Backpack-Booster-Seat-Combo/dp/B002RTM014

Kirstie's Homemade Home - Channel 4

Kirstie Allsopp's new programme on Channel 4 is lovely! For anyone who loves crafts and enjoys watching things being made - this is for you - plus some great design/recycling ideas. This is a definite must watch. The website also gives instructions on how to make some of the items shown in the programme. Love it!

My two other favourite design-type programmes - - of course Grand Designs with Kevin McLeod and Country House Rescue with Ruth Watson.

Sundew/Drosera

I was watching BBC2 last night - Jimmy Doherty - Darwin's Garden and saw this plant. JD was repeating a Darwinian experiment on carniverous plants - which I cant say I'm normally interested in - but was so taken with the beauty of the plant that I found some photos on the Web ............... I was so excited that I didn't note where the photos came from - so if anyone sees them who may own them - hope they dont mind my using them - but they are just beautiful!
This plant could lend itself to so many design ideas - but you couldn't improve on it - - -
nothing 's more beautiful than nature itself.

Gok's Fashion Fix

I maybe 'of a certain age' but I'm hooked on "Gok's Fashion Fix" - I love it!
It's fun and if you like fashion, you can pick up on the latest tips - (which obviously have to be adapted - depending on your age!) - but well worth watching.

Foyles War

I just love this series - it's very sympathetically written, by Anthony Horowitz, and beautifully acted. Michael Kitchen plays the lead, as a Det. Chief Inspector, Honeysuckle Weeks as his driver and Anthony Howell as detective sergeant. They gel together wonderfully well and if one of the characters was missing, the stories would would certainly miss them. It takes place in Hastings, during the 40's (WW2) ........... costumes and scenes are perfect. I can just sit back contentedly, knit and watch!
(Saturday ITV1 : 8.55)

Masterchef 2008 - BBC1 - The Final

This was the most exciting Masterchef I've seen. It was a totally gruelling competition for the final contestants, but unfortunately this morning I had to sit through a totally gruelling 190 minutes of "Breakfast" (BBC1) before getting to see the extremely well-deserved winner, James Nathan - (left side of above photo). (Luckily I recorded it and could whizz through the unwanted stuff!) Huge credit also due to Johnny and Emily who were absolutely marvellous.

John Terrode and Gregg Wallace - who host the programme - are very incisive and - just wonderful. They know what they are talking about. It's a marvellous programme and must have, indeed, changed people's lives.

Philosophy of Minimalism - "Grand Designs" Trade Secrets - Channel 4

I love this series of programmes - it's about people who decide to build their own unique homes from scratch. It's fascinating. There is now an added on series called Grand Designs Trade Secrets which covers the programme shown that evening plus other information. This is a quote from last night's programme - which I thought was fairly true -
"Minimalists are more likely to be introverted than extraverted. An extravert needs a lot of stimulation. External stimulation - colour, objects, people, noise. They need that to actually function. An introvert has a very active internal world - so the last thing they need is any other form of stimulation, and so from their perspective, the less is actually better"
